Social anxiety i dont really treat as a real doctor of medicine psychiatrist, i am not even sure its a real mental disorder. doesnt everyone have some of this– it does not qualify as a serious mental illness. I review what psych meds not to take! I recommend therapy or virtual desensitization for rather than dangerous psychopharmacology- as there is no magic pill for social anxiety–psychosocial development helps it a lot

Man! You are very interesting and intelligent. I wish I knew you enough to shadow you. Great vid btw! Oh, and my brother has social anxiety along with his schizophrenia. I guess that is common right?

Now I understand that it’s popular for people to blame their social anxiety on mental illness, or seek drugs for what can be treated through therapy. However, your aptitude(my psychiatrist has the same attitude towards my social anxiety) towards social anxiety is, in my opinion, incorrect. Because while I do have social anxiety, this anxiety builds and turns into full out paranoia and psychotic meltdown. So it CAN be a serious mental illness.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) actually helped my social anxiety quite a bit. I’ve seen it reported as causing anxiety but I have found it only to be calming. I also take selegiline in combination with this, despite the contraindication, and I’ve had even better results with that.

you may not have a lot of social anxiety patients because maybe they’re too embarrassed to get help or stay inside a lot

Problem with thinking it’s not real is do you think people with bad social anxiety have agoraphobia? That’s what everybody thought I had in college – I was afraid to leave my room – you know there were people out there and everything
This was before Paxil, right? So even my shrink thought it couldn’t just be SHYNESS. Well it was depression and shyness. And drugs. But the shyness was the worst. And was mainly why I used drugs.

yes its hard but we must feel the depression and let our bodies find the way around it. and it doesnt make our drug companies rich either.the body will find a new route to stabilise…hopefully..but then the argument..is life to short?

I heard about stimulants and benzos helped very well to some people with social dysfunction (include social anxiety, autism, personality disorder or simply drepressive shyness) but the major problem is the adicction.
People can beat their own fears and limits without the help of drugs, is posible and yes, social anxiety is not a mental illness
