stay away from anti depressants they are more then half fluoride- which was given to inmates in concentration camps – gulags. Meditation- yoga- breath work and diet will help. I feel you, i too have S.A.
~ you are beautiful my friend, much respect

Let it be heard. I appreciate people speaking out about their anxieties. It is better than bottling it up inside. You are young. With proper help and a strong support system you will succeed.

I love reading your posting/video. It really interest me. What are the other suggestions you can give to us?

Cool! You’re talking about Overcoming Social Anxiety: Step by Step. It’s an amazing program! I wish I lived closer to the SA Institute so I could participate in the behavioral group. It’s just like you said, anxiety is a big, bad thinking habit. It’s a matter of replacing irrational thinking with rational thinking. I’ve suffered with varying degrees of SA for most of my life, but was at my worst a couple of years ago. If you really commit to therapy, it is possible to move through it.

@vainbadkitty its completely possible to overcome it,. its all in ur head,. i have it too,. you need to realize the way you act, examine the way you act and question it,. realize that there are manurisms that u use all the time,. and things that you repeat from people or the media,. then work on getting rid of as many as you can,. meaning; trying to stop using manurisms and repeating things,. cuz its what everyone does,. if everyone realized those things, they would have this disorder to,.

I dont really enjoy social situations, i tend to shut up and feel like i should not be there and that i dont fit in at all…i dont know why…i keep to myself, i dont like keeping to myself, but i just naturaly do. I dont feel fear when i see someone, i can talk when i am in a group i just never have much to say, i do fear to be judged…but it’s not to a point where i cant function. But i wonder if i might have some social anxiety.

But seriously…why dont people suffering from social anxiety all go out together. You guy’s should all meet the people suffering from it in your city….i heard 5% of people suffer from it so it will be a lot of people near you.
Then you would not fear to be judged since everyone is suffering from it, they all know how it is, it could get you used to social events and make you become comfortable.

@Raspout1981
Being around other people with SA would be easier, but it doesn’t take away all of the fear (in my case, at least). There are other factors that it doesn’t really help with, which could prevent you from seeing the people, too. For example, I’ve avoided doing things with my group members because of my fear of driving or even eating in public.

@CreepyTim Ok this shit is intense…being scared to drive or eat to avoid being judged…this is a complete life killer it must be hell.
I mean, i thought i could have some little SA problem, but reading your comment’s make me realize i probably dont, which is a good thing cause what you seem to be going threw is hell !
Hope you get cured from that fast and can start enjoying life, cause people are never going to stop being around and being totaly unable to function with people is impossible

@Raspout1981
I don’t know if you have SA or not, but the driving and eating thing is something that I myself struggle with. Everyone with SA is affected by it differently.
The majority of the people I’ve met at the group don’t have the driving anxiety. During my first group or two, I wouldn’t get myself anything to eat during lunch, but all the other people seemed capable.

@CreepyTim Nah i dont have it…i can do pretty much anything, i hate to speak in public, i blush whenever i make a public mistake or when im put on the spot in public, but besides that, i can be doing pretty much anything whitout fear of being judged.

@CreepyTim
I have Social Anxiety disorder as well & it’s not fun at all. I didn’t have that bad until age 19 after I graduated high school. I work in a grocery store at night from 2006 until last month so I could work alone. I now work in the day due to reasons beyond my control & I help & interacting with the customers. It’s helping me come out of my shell a little bit. I feel like there’s a spotlight on me when I walk into a store. I also feel angry & bitter at the world.

@CreepyTim
The main thing & am scared about is my mild stammer. I set very high expectations of myself. I do talk with my co-workers normally some days & others I just stare at the wall into space. I have only 3 close friends & never dated a girl, not even once. Although Im straight, I don’t believe in love & feel nothing toward it (Schizoid like feelings). Im taking anti-depressants but there working just a tiny bit.

carry a notepad, write down all your negative thoughts you will be blown away by how many there are. Once you do that replace every negative with a positive. Replace the negative with a real calming thought not too positive thats the key! it has to be believable. After attacking the negative thinking habit for a while you will no longer be driven by your emotions.

yeah I hate my life, I just want to die, wont do anything about it but yeah I just want to die…. Cause I will soon have nothing to live for, on the weekends I stay in bed most of the day or play games, I don’t hang out with people or have anyone to talk to on a deep level.
#20 by mcreary91 on April 27th, 2010
@sunnys1984 does not even come close to working.
#21 by sunnys1984 on April 27th, 2010

#22 by mcreary91 on April 27th, 2010
@sunnys1984 I did before your comment I did something which was almost exactly the same for one week, someone else told me to do it, and it did not work.
#23 by EyesofGeisha on April 30th, 2010
@CreepyTim Hmmm…I found that Ativan lost it’s effect quickly…Then you have to keep taking more…
