I have to add i was taking my bicycle, so cycling with a crate of beer makes it more difficult, so the steep bridge posed a problem because maybe i could not make it or something.
And the crossing two roads i had to stop, and maybe i would loose my balance etc…

Its sad reading these comments. I hav the same problem. I’m afraid to go outside. Its like im in jail. I feel depressed and i feel like im useless. It sucks. Im even afraid to go to the library up my street. Its good to know that im not alone and i think we all have to stay strong and keep going forward in life. Thank you.

I used to have social phobia, though perhaps not to the same degree as some others. Looking back, I’d say the most important thing is not to beat yourself up over it too much; taking pleasure in whatever you do, no matter how limited that might seem, should come first. Then deal with the phobia.

im 17 right now and i can’t actually take this much longer, its horrible. you can’t do nothing, nothing without feeling fucking awkward, theres only afew people who i can open up to to a certain degree. i started doing alchohol/drugs and became a hermit, which leaves you in a deeper depression. all i try to do is keep busy, just find something to do, this helps me forget about everything momentarily. i wonder where i’ll in 10 years time……hmmm……..

You need to attack it from all angles by being the opposite of this – i.e. You are good, your opinions count, people respect you, people like you etc..

I have social phobia and it’s pure torture and have removed myself from society and will not go out into public for any reason for fear of having to socialize with others. I stay in my room locked up like a prisoner and have been this way for over 25 years. Depression, aniexty attacks, parnoid delusions and schizophrenia have been disabling. Inside my head a HELL!! is raging war aganist my soul and everyday is one day closer to the end. Sometimes I fear suicide is the only answer to my pain.

Have you even watched the vid? It’s the fucked up situation where you’re afraid of nearly EVERYTHING. Just think of all day things you do with people, you just fear these situation like hell. Imagine you have to get your school results and you know it’s the worst, imagine that fear, constantly.

  19. #19 by xd0rkyyy on July 7th, 2009

How do you get it o.o

Most people develop it in their teens (high school years) or at least thats where I developed mine. Thankfully my SP is mild, and I can function normally most of the time. But my social relationships with be soooo much better if I could totally get rid of it. It gets the worst when I’m in my car, bloody sucks.

What this guy is talking about doesn’t sound like social phobia to me. Perhaps he’s using a very broad definition of social phobia.

I have no problem being in crowded areas like a shopping center because no one there would walk up to you and start asking personal questions as you would experience at a party or convention–REAL social situations!

  24. #24 by YouDecideFate on July 11th, 2009

I’ve had it all my life. :/

But I just always become really anxious and scared when I go someplace where there might be interaction between others. Plus, if there are many people (such as school, work, etc., I fear that everyone will be thinking bad things about me, and possibly hate me for it.

I’ll always have it, but it’s been improving each year. :)

You don’t have general social phobia then..you have a specific issue within social anxiety.
mild to severe. Mild = someone who has specific situations that bring up anxiety like a party or needing to give a presentation whereas severe would be anxiety from ANY social situation. This can be debilitating & affect one’s life dramatically causing some not to go to college or go out to stores or want to be around people at all..
